Tower Builder | njew.icnc.com
Tower Builder

Quick, build the tallest stable structure that you can in 90 seconds! Drag and place blocks into your zone for points, but any enemy objects in your zone count against your final score.

Players can press SPACE to dispense a random block from the launcher on the left, which can then be dragged into the zone or thrown away. Once a block has been placed, it can no longer be dragged around. After about 25 seconds, the enemy will begin throwing objects from the right side of the screen. After 90 seconds are up, the game will end and the final score will be displayed.

The game was originally planned to be multiplayer, where two players would compete to build the most stable and tallest tower by stacking blocks from their dispenser, essentially like the current version of the game. Players could also throw their unwanted blocks (usually circles) at an opponent's tower to knock it down. However, this idea was shelved as multiplayer seemed impossible at the time. Instead, a simple singleplayer mode with an even simpler AI was created as a demo

  • The game was heavily inspired by a tutorial by YouTuber 'quill18creates'. In fact, many early games on the website, including some by fellow programmer Joseph Lerner, featured aspects from some of quill18's tutorials, including the arena from Block Bomb Survival (pathfinding tutorial), the FPS controller in Hunt the Ian, and multiplayer in both Multiplayer Madness and Laser Tag.
  • Though Tower Builder itself did not find much success, its code was re-used in several other games, including Game Creator and Swipe & Shoot.
  • The original name for Tower Builder was 'Stack', and this name could be seen on the website and the game's page for some time. This was also the name of the main multiplayer scene in Unity.
  • The point scoring system was added last-minute and was not refined in any way, which explains why it is only calculated at the very end of the game, rather than constantly being calculated throughout.
  • On the website, once the player wins the game, they can't do anything else (not even restart).
